Saint Lucia

 General Information

Saint Lucia has made significant efforts to improve the policy environment. In 2016, the Recreational Water Quality Guidelines were set and in 2017, the government developed the National Policy on Wastewater Management. Additionally, the government has completed the Sectoral Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan for the Water Sector as part of the National Adaptation Plan (SASAP). The strategy sets an overarching goal to drive the implementation of effective adaptation actions across all sectors and at all levels of society for safeguarding Saint Lucia’s water resources and services under a changing climate.

Currently, the government is planning to develop Saint Lucia’s Wastewater Master Plan (WMP) and guidelines that build on the existing national policy.

Adopting and implementing innovative approaches in the country is important to introduce new financing mechanisms, address behavioral changes, reform policies and existing institutional arrangements to manage market opportunities and challenges like climate change.
